My favorite Decepticon, Shockwave is gracing the teaser shot and I'm definitely excited for that. Also, from the sounds of things, collectors are in for a few surprises, including sound, Dinobots, Seekers, and maybe some new unique articulation! Stay tuned!

Ultimetal Optimus Prime

Art Storm and Takara Tomy are taking Optimus Prime to the ultimate level.. or shall I say, Ultimetal Level! Takara Tomy and Action Toys are taking pre orders for their new Ultimetal Optimus Prime! This all new, non transforming Autobot come stacked to the smoke stacks with features! Constucted primarily of die cast metal , it also features removable armor on his legs, hips, arms and torso, revealing the inner workings of the venerable Autobot leader.  Furthermore,  the elbows are double jointed for posability, as well as individually jointed fingers!

Additionally, Prime has working lights and sounds, including light up eyes, matrix, and shoulder lights! The sounds include an english voice, paired up with moving mouth plate.  All the lights and sounds are even controlled via remote control! Optimus stands at 430 mm tall (17 inches) and includes a few accessories; the Matrix of Leadership with light up feature, Energon Axe, blaster rifle and stand.  The blaster removable parts as well to check out the innards.  The stand includes an Autobot logo in the front, and a support rod to make sure your precious Autobot leader doesn't come toppling off the shelf.  Additionally, there are places to safely store Prime's accessories when not in use.

All of this doesn't come cheap!  Weighing in at a whopping ¥78000, this is definitely only for the dedicated collectors, with a few buck in the bank for such an item.  At that price, it has to be nit picked, and the biggest shortcoming for me, would have to be the paint job on the inner chest.  To give it a quick spray of black seems pretty lazy.  Even if the Matrix takes up that space, when it's removed, Prime's chest looks like a large, black boring cavity.  A stark contrast to the bring gold and silver used in other areas!  A small issue, to be sure, and regardless of the chest colors, Ultimetal Optimus Prime would definitely be a great addition to any Transformer collection! Releasing sometime in 2014, no specific release date has been provided.  However, this one will be in high demand, and you can head to Art Storm's page to pre-order your own Autobot leader!

The Loyal Subjects x GIJoe x Transformers

I came home from running a bunch of errands to find a parcel waiting for me at my front door. I put the box down in a safe corner and went to make some dinner. After taking the dogs for their evening walk, I finally opened the box and found some treasures I'd forgotten about! Here we have the SDCC 2013 Exclusive GI Joe figures by The Loyal Subjects!

Now, I've always been a Joe fan, but the toy releases haven't excited me at all until this summer. I pre-ordered the Hot Toys Snake Eyes (who is still in hisplastic prison awaiting review) and thought that was the end if it. However, after seeing the teasers of Iron Grenadier Destro and Urban Camo Storm Shadow, I knew I had to have them. These were my two favorite figures to play with back in the day!  They were also the only Destro and Storm Shadow I owned. I also had a Snake Eyes but it was the boring V3 and the terrible V4. They always sat in the bottom of the toy pile, relegated to masked bad guy flunky status for my reformed good guy Storm Shadow and mercenary Destro. Ah! to be a kid again! but I digress.

When they came available, I quickly snapped them up along with a handful of the new Transformers line. I hope I get a Jazz in one of these boxes!  I'll reveal my pulls in a future  post. Wish me luck!
