The Loyal Subjects x GIJoe x Transformers

I came home from running a bunch of errands to find a parcel waiting for me at my front door. I put the box down in a safe corner and went to make some dinner. After taking the dogs for their evening walk, I finally opened the box and found some treasures I'd forgotten about! Here we have the SDCC 2013 Exclusive GI Joe figures by The Loyal Subjects!

Now, I've always been a Joe fan, but the toy releases haven't excited me at all until this summer. I pre-ordered the Hot Toys Snake Eyes (who is still in hisplastic prison awaiting review) and thought that was the end if it. However, after seeing the teasers of Iron Grenadier Destro and Urban Camo Storm Shadow, I knew I had to have them. These were my two favorite figures to play with back in the day!  They were also the only Destro and Storm Shadow I owned. I also had a Snake Eyes but it was the boring V3 and the terrible V4. They always sat in the bottom of the toy pile, relegated to masked bad guy flunky status for my reformed good guy Storm Shadow and mercenary Destro. Ah! to be a kid again! but I digress.

When they came available, I quickly snapped them up along with a handful of the new Transformers line. I hope I get a Jazz in one of these boxes!  I'll reveal my pulls in a future  post. Wish me luck!

Amanda Visell custom Labbit teaser?

Shown on on Amanda Visell's twitter, we see what may be her second collaboration with Frank Kozik's iconic Labbit platform!  Amanda Visell is no stranger to the vinyl icon, having previously created the Wood Labbit a few years back. Labeled the Wood Pandalope, it appears to be a panda themed design.  I really enjoy the whimsicality she injects into her customs; and if this little photo is truly a teaser of things to come, I for one, can't wait to see the Wood Pandalope fully realized!

Transformers x The Loyal Subjects trading party at Mindzai!

There's a party going on!  If you're looking for your Transformers x The Loyal Subjects fix and happen to be in the Toronto area, head down to Mindzai today!  In celebration of the release of everyone's favourite robots in disguise, they will be having a trading party from 5:30pm - 8:00pm today. Get your best Autobot or Deception costume on and you'll even score a discount!

Not only am I a Loyal Subjects fan, but I'm also a fan of this designer toy store that could!  They were even a part of the inspiration for Cyborg Bunny! They helped me get my Street Fighter  x Kidrobot case (their last one at the time) and are a source of my own collection!

If any of our readers are there, *hint hint* Jazz is my favourite!

- from the Mindzai blog:

Calm down boys and girls! The transformers have finally arrived at Mindzai.
They were taking so long to arrive, I honestly thought they were coming directly from far away Cybertron. But better late then never!

The transformer minifigures are just too awesome. They are crafted by our friends at The Loyal Subjects and designed by the awesome Les Schettkoe who's also responsible for the G.I. Joe series. Also, to compliment the new toys is some dope transformers apparel designed by Sket-One.

The apparel and the figures will be released this FRIDAY, August 9th in our shop downtown from 5pm to 8pm.

We're hosting a launch and trading party in our shop and we'll also have some prizes for those who want to participate in some fun transformers trivia games and challenges!

So come hang out, make some new friends, trade, collect and watch an episode of transformers or two.

When:
August 9th 5:30pm-8pm

Where:
Mindzai @ Homebase
11 Camden Street
Toronto, Ontario

See you soon guys!
Chris

P.S. If you dress up as an Autobot or Decepticon, you'll receive a 15 % discount on any single transformer product. (one discount per person)

P.P.S. If you can't make it down, you can already purchase the figures online.

Limited Edition Elysium Print by Martin Ansin x Mondo

Though not specifically toy related, I came across this little poster that piqued my interest.   We don't have to delve deeply into the idea of pop culture influencing toys and vice versa. Its all well and good, because what we have here is a wonderful print by the Martin Ansin and Mondo. I'm a huge fan of Niell Blomkamp's District 9 and I'm quite excited to see what he has in store for filmgoers with his new sci fi celluloid tale, Elysium, opening tomorrow night!

Measuring 24" x 36"' this beauty is limited to 380 hand numbered prints. Priced at only $50 each, these little pretties, like most of Mondo's prints, will likely not last long!
